We are not sure if this is taking our motto of “Barcode Everything” a little too far or not; whether this is a bit weird or kinda cool - we are erring more on the kinda cool side. I mean why not make use of modern technology. Why limit your commemorations to the tiny space available on a piece of concrete.

In an article Published on Monday, May 30th Cian O' Sullivan said “The idea is that a barcode printed on the headstone of a U.S. soldier would allow passers-by to scan them, and pull up the biography and achievements of the soldier buried there.”

Headstone

It certainly does illustrate the diversity of the old barcode and its willingness to go anywhere linking the physical (and even spiritual) to the virtual…

Sure!

We have always said that what you can do with barcodes is limited only by your own imagination. And although barcodes achieve, with almost mythical ability, the automation of many standard and monotonous tasks, they can also be used for many equally meaningful but far more exciting exploits.

ScanBosom

ScanMe creates a custom QR code just for you. It links your Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter profiles and can include your latest status message, a way to email you and even a telephone number. This code can then be printed on just about anything - the  bosom is up there with our favourite options (read into that whatever you wish)...

The Rainforests of Liberia, like our natural resources just about everywhere, are under threat. Fret not! Barcodes to the rescue - check out our striped hero in action  here.

Another company behind barcodes for trees is Helveta, who use plastic barcode tags to identify, monitor and track forest loads. Forest managers use handheld devices to scan the tags when the tree is cut and upload the information to a secure database. This allows the tree to be tracked through the inventory stream, as well as generate inventory maps, management reports and audit histories - of course it does! Surely you now get what we mean by BARCODE EVERYTHING!“

There is a new app called Barcodas

You can create short melodies spontaneously by scanning random barcodes on your phone. Once a code is scanned the melody will start to play in a twinkling music box-like tone. From there, the scanned melody can be transformed in several ways. Barcodes - giving the tone-deaf musical street cred since...well, probably only since this app was released.
